Morning Glory

To eat breakfast or not to eat breakfast? This question has been volleyed back and forth in the fitness community for the past several years. thanks in part to proponents of inemittent fasting, who often encourage skipping breakfast to extend your overnight fast and thus your fat-burning window. Such advice files in the face of the more common (and traditional) notion that eating first thing in the morning jump starts the metabolism and provides nutrients for muscle building and energy production. Well, score one for the pro-breakfast crowd. A recent study from the University of Missouri found that female subjects who ate protein-rich breakfasts experienced reduced cravings for sweet and high-fat foods later in the day that might have led to overeating and unwanted weight gain. Those who skipped breakfast, the researchers stated, saw such cravings rise throughout the day, a result of lower levels of dopamine, a brain chemical linked to feelings of food reward that are released in reponse to eating. So if you tend to binge on junk food at night, your answer to the above breakfast question should be a simple one.
